12th Day, 12th Way

12.  Capture household waste water
This challenge is along the same lines as #7.  A lot of wasted water goes down the drain inside your home.  Since you are paying for that water, you might as well save it so you can use it.  Keep an empty jug, bowl or bucket under your sink and use it to collect the excess water.

For example, it takes a long while for my water to get hot in the kitchen sink.  I obviously want to wash my dishes in hot water, so I have to let it run to get it hot.  When I started collecting all that cold water I realized that I was letting 3 gallons go down the drain!  If I washed dishes every day for a week and didn't capture the excess water I'd be letting 21 gallons go down the drain.  Once I collect the water, I then dump the jugs in the rain barrel outside for later use.  So, try it for a day to determine your impact.  This includes water in any sink, bath or shower.
